How prop trading works

3 lessons

What a prop firm is

A proprietary trading firm evaluates traders and gives the ones who pass a funded account. You trade the firm's capital on a simulated account and keep most of the profit, while the firm limits risk with clear drawdown rules.

Why evaluations exist

The challenge shows you can grow an account without large drawdowns. Hitting the target matters less than how you get there: consistent, controlled risk is what the rules are designed to reward.

Reading the rules before you trade

Know your daily loss limit, maximum loss and profit target in dollars before placing a single trade. Write them down; the FundingFXT dashboard also shows them live.

Risk management

4 lessons

Risk per trade

Most funded traders risk 0.25%–1% of the account per trade. At 0.5% risk, it takes 8 losing trades in a row to reach the 4% daily limit on the 2-Step, which gives you room to be wrong.

Position sizing

Size each trade from your stop loss, not from a feeling. Lots = (account × risk %) ÷ (stop distance × value per point). Calculate it every time.

Always use a stop loss

A stop loss turns an unknown loss into a planned one. Place it where your trade idea is proven wrong, then size the position to fit. On the 2-Step and Instant Funding, open trades together may never be down more than 1% of the account, so a stop is essential.

The daily loss buffer

Stop trading for the day well before your daily limit, for example at half of it. A buffer protects you from slippage and from revenge trading.

Building a strategy

3 lessons

Pick one market and one setup

Specialise. Learning how one instrument moves at certain times of day beats switching between ten pairs.

Define entries and exits in writing

If you can't write your rules in three sentences, you can't follow them under pressure. Entry, stop, target: every time.

Back-test, then forward-test

Check your setup on past charts, then trade it small and record the results. Trust the numbers, not memory.

Trading psychology

3 lessons

Losing streaks are normal

Even a 60% win-rate strategy will regularly see five losses in a row. Expect it, and size so it doesn't end your challenge.

Avoid revenge trading

After a loss the urge is to win it back immediately. Walk away instead; the market will be there tomorrow.

No deadline pressure

FundingFXT has no time limit. You never need to force trades to hit the target by a date.

Passing the FundingFXT 2-Step

3 lessons

A simple plan for Phase 1

Risk 0.5% per trade with a 1:2 reward-to-risk ratio. 9 net winning trades reach the 9% target, while it would take 20 net losses to hit the 10% max loss.

Phase 2 is the same job

The target drops to 6%, the rules stay the same. Don't change what worked; just keep executing.

Life as a funded trader

There's no target on a funded account, and the max loss tightens to 7% on the 2-Step. Focus on steady profit, close positions before requesting payouts, and grow your split from 80% to 95%.

Accounts set up as soon as payment confirms

Put it into practice

You've got the plan. Start a challenge with no time limit and trade it your way.

  • Up to 95% profit split
  • Payouts daily
  • No time limit
